Crewe has a population of 80,000. Proportionally there are greater numbers of detached and semi-detached houses in comparison to Stoke-on-Trent, with fewer terraced properties.
Houses close to the town centre tend to be terrace properties built after 1850, reflecting the rapid expansion of the town after the arrival of Crewe railway station. Two and three bedroom properties predominate, although larger period houses ring the town centre.
Larger properties in Crewe have seen gains of around 7% since August 2015, although the traditional terrace market has seen less growth.
Average asking prices for all property rose to £135,000 in 2016. The average price for a two-bed terrace rose to £94,000.
The towns and villages that surround Crewe (for example, Haslington, Shavington and Wistaston) attract significantly higher average asking prices – in the region of £180,000 for three-bed semi-detached houses.
